Study of Computer Science (B.Sc.)
The study program Study of Computer Science (B.Sc.) is combined with vocational training as an IT specialist. The study program Study of Business Administration - Industrial Management (B.A.) is combined with vocational training as an industrial clerk. Graduates qualify for a wide range of tasks in application development and system integration. Specialization in data and process analysis and digital networking are also possible. Examples of professional fields are: Commercial or technical systems, data centers, networks.

Perspective
Skilled professional work in many occupations requires both demanding practical skills and intensive “knowledge work”: The service sector and manufacturing include not only hands-on tasks but also complex planning and management responsibilities, for which academic study provides appropriate preparation. On the other hand, business professionals and managers often need in-depth knowledge of practical skilled work.
It is generally expected that digitalization will further increase the interconnection of practical and cognitive requirements. Hence, the close integration of vocational and academic education enables the development of new skill sets, leading to better opportunities in the job market.

Vocational school
Vocational classes for the BHH study program for IT specialists with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science take place at the Berufliche Schule ITECH Elbinsel Wilhelmsburg (BS 14).

The vocational school provides in-depth knowledge in both theory and practice. It broadens the perspective on the respective professional field beyond the scope of the individual training company. Vocational school instruction is offered in specialized classes. In total, six modules can be completed ate the vocational school and credited toward the bachelor’s degree program, each worth sic ECTS credits (36 ECTS credits in total). To ensure comparability between the subject areas at the vocational school and university modules, the vocational school curriculum is deepened and expanded in both scope and content.
University of Applied Sciences
At BHH, teaching focuses on academic competencies and scientific methods. Excluding the bachelor’s thesis, a total of 100 out of 180 ECTS credits have to be completed directly at the university. In their basic structure, the study programs consist of subject-specific and interdisciplinary modules, as well as elective and mandatory courses. In addition to discipline-specific studies, the programs also include modules that combine perspectives from different fields.
A significant portion of the studies (30 ECTS credits) is dedicated to developing interdisciplinary skills, especially related to economic contexts. In turn, the elective modules offer students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in specific industry sectors.
Training company
At the training company, students gain practical work experience. A total of 32 ECTS credits are to be earned through practical training. For this purpose, the so-called “Validation of Practice”, a practice-theory integrated module, is offered each year. This module consists of 12 ECTS credits, of which eight credit points are granted for practical work and four credit points for academic reflection and validation. The main objective is to connect theoretical knowledge with practical insights and experiences. Each of these practice modules concludes with a module exam, with the exam authorization held by the university lecturers.
