Study of Business Administration - Industrial Management (B.A.)

with vocational training as an industrial clerk

Graduates are qualified for a wide range of tasks in various industries. Examples of professional fields are: Procurement and stockpiling, production planning, controlling, project management, HR management.

Study of Business Administration - Banking and Finance (B.A.)

with vocational training as a bank clerk

Graduates are qualified for a wide range of tasks in all business areas of credit institutions. Examples of professional fields are: Acquiring, advising and supporting customers, selling banking services.

Study of Business Administration - Marketing and Communication Management (B.A.)

with vocational training as a marketing communications specialist

Graduates are qualified for a wide range of tasks, for example at agencies, consultancies or in the communications departments of companies. Examples of professional fields are: Classic advertising, direct marketing, promotion, event, public relations.

Study of Business Administration - Management of SME (B.A.)

with vocational training in the skilled trades or a commercial-technical profession

This study course focuses on combining management skills for small and medium-sized enterprises with the wide range of vocational training in the skilled trades and industrial/technical fields. Examples of possible professions are: Carpentry, painting, confectionery, electronics, plant mechanics, mechatronics.

Study of Computer Science (B.Sc.)

with vocational training as an IT specialist

Graduates qualify for a wide range of tasks in application development and system integration. Specialization in data and process analysis and digital networking are also possible. Examples of professional fields are: Commercial or technical systems, data centers, networks.

Study of Applied Nursing Science (B.Sc.)

with vocational training as a nurse

Graduates are qualified as experts in nursing science. They will care for patients of all ages in acute or long-term care, develop, implement and evaluate care concepts and processes in nursing and work in the training and further education of junior staff.

The Cooperative University of Applied Sciences Hamburg (Berufliche Hochschule Hamburg, BHH) is the first public university in Germany to combine academic education with dual vocational training in a systematic and cooperative approach among three study locations. Our innovative study model, the so-called study-integrated apprenticeship, is characterized by the following features:

Bachelor’s degree & vocational training degree: Two degrees within one educational path
Close interlocking of academic studies and vocational training: Three learning locations: public university of applied sciences, vocational school and training company
No tuition fees: There are no tuition fees at the Cooperative University of Applied Sciences Hamburg
Remuneration: Hands-on experience and (training) remuneration from the very beginning
Orientation to five-day workweek: Weekly schedule
Coaching: Coaching in the first 18 months with renewed opportunity to decide on the further educational path (i.e. achievement of both degrees or – depending on the personal aims – only the vocational training degree or the bachelor's degree)

Cooperative higher education

Dual vocational training system – Made in Germany

Besides university studies, dual vocational training is a qualified and recognized educational path in Germany. Largely unknown abroad, this way of acquiring professional skills is a major reason for Germany’s strong SME sector. Due to the close interlocking of theory acquisition in the vocational school and hands-on application in the training company, highly qualified professionals are formed in the dual vocational training system.

One step further

Since the mid-1970s, selected educational institutions in Germany have offered the opportunity to combine both educational paths. Due to its great success, this study model of cooperative higher education was subsequently adopted by universities, leading to a recognized bachelor’s degree. Graduates of such a study program have a broad and demanded range of work skills and academic knowledge that meet the requirements of the modern, highly technical labor market.

With its collaborative tripartite study model, BHH offers an optimized and innovative form of this cooperative learning approach combining dual vocational training and university studies.
