Our Places of Learning
Vocational school
At the vocational school, fundamental theoretical knowledge and practical skills are taught. Here, the perspective extends beyond the scope of the individual training company to encompass the entire professional field. Vocational classes are held in specialized groups. Practical skills are practiced in a dedicated skills lab. The vocational nursing classes take place at the Berufliche Schule Burgstraße (BS 12).

Training company
During their training as a nursing professional, students gain practical experience from day one and acquire in-depth knowledge of the different areas and roles in the nursing profession. The further development of theory and practice takes place primarily at vocational schools throughout the three-year training program. The vocational training is credited with 80 ECTS credits towards the bachelor’s degree. During the practice-oriented study program, students enter into an employment contract with a company and work part-time as qualified caregivers.
University of Applied Sciences
At BHH, teaching focuses on academic competencies and scientific methods in the field of Applied Nursing Science. Of the total 180 ECTS credits, 100 credit points, including the bachelor’s thesis, must be earned directly at the university. 25 credit points are earned during the three-year vocational training to become a qualified nursing professional. 75 credit points are completed during the work-integrated study program from the 7th to 9th semester.
The bachelor’s study program is fundamentally structured around subject-specific modules in three kea areas: nursing expertise and nursing science, counselling and guidance, as well as systemic and interdisciplinary expertise. Students have the opportunity to choose elective modules focused on either acute care or long-term care for specialization. The program concludes in the 9th semester with a bachelor’s thesis.
